Electrochemistry of Surfaces

The Electrochemistry of Surfaces group is interested in providing answers to the age-old problem of corrosion. Our research is focused on understanding the roles of aqueous solution chemistry (e.g., effect of ions, pH, etc.) and the mechanisms by which these factors enhance the corrosion rates of metals. Special focus is paid towards characterization of stainless steel and dental implants materials, using a combination of surface characterization techniques including scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) and vertical scanning interferometry (VSI).
